Temperature Acquisition Cables (TACs)

It all starts with BeadedStream’s all-digital cables. Digital Temperature Acquisition Cables (TACs) increase the speed and ease of obtaining subsurface temperature data for engineering, construction, and scientific applications.TACs deliver accurate, highly-resolved measurement data reliably in digital form to PCs, laptops, handheld devices, dataloggers, PLCs, Ethernet appliances, satellite transceivers - just about anything capable of industry standard serial communication protocols.

TACs are easier to use than thermistor strings for several reasons. Although both TACs and thermistor strings incorporate a temperature sensing element at multiple points along a length of cable, this is where the similarity ends. TAC sensors perform the analog to digital conversation onboard the sensor so no further A-D conversion is needed and resistive losses (voltage drops) between the sensor and central micro processor do not affect the temperature reading. TAC sensors relay temperature measurement data to a central microprocessor using a lightweight digital communication protocol. Finally, each TAC sensor is uniquely identifiable enabling multiple sensors to share a single wire. Compared to thermistor strings, TACs provide more sensor locations over greater lengths while simplifying installation, reducing component counts, and lowering cost. In fact TACs can have over 100 sensors installed on one cable and the cables can be up to 1500 feet (450 meters) long.

Field Data Collector

Get data when you want it where you want it with the Field Data Collector. The BeadedStream Data Collector is a rugged handheld field computer adapted for use with BeadedStream TACs. Based on Juniper Systems Archer Field PC running Fetch™ - our own easy-to-use software for recording, organizing, and exporting your temperature readings - the Field Data Collector is the number one choice for customers interested in taking readings without leaving a dedicated logger installation behind. The Field Data Collector is designed to operate in temperatures as cold as -22° F (-30° degrees C) or as hot as 122° F (50° C). With an IP67 rating, the data collector is completely sealed against dust and water.

The Field data Collector Kit includes everything needed for direct connection to TACs with our standard field connector. Everything is setup, tested, and ready for the field.

Other peripheral devices such as a compact flash or SD card cameras, Wi-Fi modules, bar-code scanners, RFID readers, and memory cards can be used with the Field Data Collector. See Manufacture’s website for more details. (link)

Datalogger

Go long. Go light. Don’t go back for awhile with the BeadedStream TAC-L data logger. The purpose-built ultra low-power data logger enables TACs to record temperatures for over a year on just 2 AA lithium batteries. Custom designed to seamlessly integrate with BeadedStream TACs, the TAC-L data logger is perfect for long-term monitoring. There is safe onboard storage so the data survives even if the battery dies.

Web-enabled Ethernet Appliance

The TAC Ethernet Appliance, manufactured by Embedded Data Systems, controls up to three BeadedStream TACs remotely over the web. Standard and inexpensive network equipment can be used with the TAC Ethernet Appliance to complete installed temperature sensor networks. The TAC Ethernet Appliance communicates via TCP/IP over standard Ethernet to take advantage of existing corporate LANs, the internet, and in-house MIS expertise for building out temperature sensor network.
